There were many
versions of Dama Dum Mast Kalandar,
the Amir Khusrow qawwali which was
modified by Sufi poet Bulleh Shah.
A couple of these adaptations featured on the soundtracks of films that released in 2013. While my blog on Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy’s music contains a post on the song from D-Day, this is about the track from David.
Titled Mast Kalandar, it was rendered by the one and only Rekha Bhardwaj.
The track was recreated by Mikey McCleary, who was credited as one of the various composers on the film’s soundtrack, and composed its background score.
